"From Economic Recovery to Expansion"

The recovery has been underway since June 2009 at the
national level while at the local level the recession was shorter and the
recovery started later - in the spring of 2010.
As 2011 has begun both the national and local economies appear to be
gaining some momentum. Expectations are
that the momentum will gain speed in 2011, although some segments of the
economy will lag the general recovery.
In particular at the local level, foreclosures are an issue and the new
housing sector is lagging.
The presentation
will address:
- Where the national and Washington region economies are in the
first quarter of 2011
- What is likely to unfold for the rest of the year
- What is ahead in the next few years for the economy and local markets
Speaker:
John is a senior professional with over 30
years of experience analyzing the Washington region. His areas of expertise
include regional economic development, economic and housing analyses,
metropolitan transportation planning and land use studies, and analysis of real
estate markets. John has been with the
Center since 2001. In addition to his
research activities, he teaches transportation and land use policy and planning
